Disappointed
Apr. 19th, 2026 11:50 pmPosting from phone, so apologies for inevitable mistakes.
I wanted to make a proper post about all the nice things I did this week, but it's something else that made me log in and write. Apparently a fic I really liked and was sad about it being privated was actually made with ai. I am not completely sure whether that is what I read. Some say that the author is rewriting and posting a non-ai version anonymously. I still have the link saved and it does say it's by anonymous so maybe it was the rewritten version I was reading and they just privated it again for a different reason. As evidence people mention the fic having more than 300k words and chapters coming out every day, and I have it writen down (don't aks, i keep lists) that the fic had 100k when I read it. Also some mention plot lines which I don't remember at all. Safe to say that they were exposed even before I started reading?
This really surprised me cus it was the writing style specifically that drew me in.
This is all over place, but my eyes hurt from looking at the screen and I had just wanted to do a quick update.
Bye

Date: 2026-04-25 03:14 pm (UTC)Has the author addressed any of this somewhere? There is something to be said about people being piled on with AI accusations when it's not true. People who don't write well enough get accused, people who write too well get accused, people who posts too fast get accused, etc. I hate AI, but I also hate people going on witch hunts over it to the point where they end up accusing innocent people.

Date: 2026-04-26 09:48 am (UTC)I agree that a lot of people get accused of using AI for being too good or too bad at writing, and I honestly got annoyed when I saw that post at first. I was glad to see many people defending certain writing choices, saying that amateur writers often make those mistakes etc. However, the OP then talked about the author posting four chapters a day and apparently being praised for being able to write so fast. Essentially, they posted 300k words in a very short time. Again, I thought this was a bit stupid cus they probably had it prewritten, and I was also sure the fic didn't have that many words when I was reading it, and, since I do keep track of the fics i like, I checked and it really wasn't that many words. I guess the fact that they privated the fic immediately after the exposé was as good as confessing to using ai.
However, it seems that the version I was reading was the author's attempt at rewriting the fic without ai, which is why it was published anonymously. I'm guessing they didn't want people commenting and reminding everyone. I guess my question is whether I even read the ai version. Did they really rewrite it? Why did they private again? Did someone notice something again?
Sorry for writing such a long post, but I'm honestly so tired of ai, but also tired of ai accusations. Wish there was no need to even think about whether something is really someone's work. Also, the fic dealt with some serious topics, and using ai to talk about some difficult human experiences just disappoints me even more, cus what does ai know about such things. Some people say that in the of fic those topics got handled progressively worse as the fic went on, so maybe I just avoided eventual disappointment.
